Thursday night I finished reading Lockdown by Alexander Gordon Smith. Normally, I wouldn’t do a post about this book, because I have no idea how I feel about it.
The story: One summer, the gangs really got out of control and killed a lot of people. So it was decided that kids no longer got any special consideration in the justice system. The Furnace is built – a huge underground prison for kids that are lifers. Enter Alex , who ,while not a good kid, didn’t actually kill his friend. However, he ends up in the Furnace. It is the place where nightmares are born. But on top of the gross food, hard labor, prison gangs and sadistic guards; there seems to be something else going on . And that is my major problem with the book ;there are hints about what is going on , but there is no hint of why. I’m not sure I trust the author enough to tell me the part of the story I want to know.
My second problem with the book – it ended on a cliff hanger . Even in a series I like each book to have a complete plot. Sometimes the next book is far away.
But it was a really compelling book. I found it hard to put down and easy to go forward even when horrible things were happening.
Yes, I’ll be reading the second book, but I am curious if anyone else has read the book. If you have, what did you think?
