Attention teen artist of Fremont! There is a city-wide art contest for high school students. Here are the official rules:
Official Contest Rules
Participants must be Fremont residents and between 9th -12th grade in high school who are interested in promoting the concept of sustainability through art.
What does that term mean?
1) the capacity to endure.
2) a means of configuring civilization and human activity so that society, its members and its economies are able to meet their needs and express their greatest potential in the present, while preserving biodiversity and natural ecosystems, planning and acting for the ability to maintain these ideals for future generations. (Phew! That’s a lot to think about – now, figure out how to show that through a painted image!)
The focus is on GREEN, GREEN, GREEN – renewable resources, resource conservation, clean water, clean air and the environment.
Storm Drain Awareness (where things go when they go down the drain)
Renewable Power Sources
Earth-Friendly Landscaping (native plants)
Invasive Aquatic Species
Artwork, no larger than 11″ x 17″, may use any medium (markers; colored pencils; crayons / pastels; pen/ink; watercolor paints; digital imagery) VERY IMPORTANT TO NOTE:
The artwork must be easy to replicate and attractive in a much larger size as the winning projects will be painted onto table tops at the dining area of the Waterpark.

Once the winning entries have been selected, the artist is required to paint the table top of their creation – hopefully during Spring Break (April 25-29, 2011). You will get Service Learning / Community Service hours for all the time you put into the project. The Fremont Recycling & Transfer Station will provide paint and other materials from their ReUse Center available to contestants at no charge. Dale Hardware is also co-sponsoring this contest.
Entries will be judged on the effectiveness of the message, creativity, educational aspects and uniqueness.
