Happy Birthday, Sandman!

sandmanThis month marks the 20th anniversary of the release of the first Sandman by Neil Gaiman.

This fantasy graphic novel grew into a series that Norman Mailer called “a comic book for intellectuals” and became an award-winning, groundbreaking comic. Some fans even believe it changed the world.

With a long, wintry holiday weekend ahead, why not relax and read (or reread) the adventures of Dream?

Twilight Debuts

Many fans of Stephenie Meyer’s teenage vampire series will be hitting the movie theater this weekend to see the newly released film version of the first book, Twilight.  Internet Movie Database reviewers have decidedly mixed opinions, with an overall rating of 5.3 stars (out of ten) at this writing. Comments ranged from “I can’t describe how terrible this movie is without inventing new words” to “To my surprise the movie did catch the magic in the book, that essence that makes us love them.” Have you seen it yet? What did you think?

Teen Digital Photographers Document Their Lives

skateboard-300-dpiAs Albany’s centennial year comes to an end, students from the high school’s advanced digital photography class added a unique contribution to the citywide celebration. Turning their cameras on themselves and their friends, they captured a day in the life of an Albany teen.

The resulting photographs range from artistic to action-packed and can be seen in the Albany Library’s Teen Area through the end of the year. Come take a look!
